Kraken net two goals in 10 seconds, overpower Blue Jackets 5-2

SEATTLE – The Seattle Kraken staged an impressive comeback, overcoming a two-goal deficit to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 in a game held on Tuesday night. Throughout the second period, Seattle scored four goals, including two rapid strikes within just 10 seconds.

Brandon Tanev ignited the scoring for the Kraken, netting a breakaway goal at 7:13 into the second period. Just 10 seconds later, Eeli Tolvanen followed suit with a goal on the power play, propelling the Kraken into the lead. The second period saw additional contributions from Tye Kartye and Will Borgen, while Jared McCann later sealed the game with an empty-net goal. Goalie Joey Daccord played a pivotal role, making 38 saves throughout the match.

Columbus initially surged ahead, thanks to a pair of goals from Sean Kuraly and Zachary Aston-Reese that came within a mere 22 seconds of each other, leaving approximately six minutes in the first period. However, Elvis Merzlikins, the Blue Jackets’ goalie, was credited with 28 saves, although the team suffered its sixth consecutive loss.

Takeaways from the matchup revealed that Columbus dominated the first period, amassing a 2-0 lead and outshooting Seattle 18 to 6. Unfortunately for them, the second period was a stark contrast, as they could only muster eight shots. For Seattle, the scoring surge was notably from players that had been struggling to find the back of the net; Borgen scored his first of the season, while Kartye marked his second. Tanev has stepped up recently, scoring three times in the last two games after previously having just one goal in the first 14 contests.

One of the pivotal moments of the evening came early in the second period when Kartye gathered control of the puck at the top of the crease and scored on a backhand, which catalyzed Seattle’s resurgence.

Noteworthy in the stats, the Kraken have now recorded an impressive all-time record of 5-0-2 against the Blue Jackets.

Looking ahead, Columbus will return to home ice to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday. Meanwhile, Seattle is set to face off against the Blackhawks on Thursday, marking the third game of what is shaping up to be a challenging six-game homestand.
