Utes drain 14 additional 3-pointers, triumph over Queens University 96-65

SALT LAKE CITY — Gabe Madsen delivered an impressive performance with 24 points while Mike Sharavjamts contributed 19 to help Utah secure a dominating 96-65 victory over Queens University on Tuesday night.

Madsen, who had already made 12 three-pointers in Utah’s initial two games, connected on 5 of 12 attempts from beyond the arc in this match. The Utes, who previously set a school record with 19 three-pointers in their first two contests, followed up with 14 shots from long range on 30 attempts against the Royals (2-1). Overall, Utah recorded a shooting percentage of 49%.

In addition to Madsen and Sharavjamts, who is noted for being the first Mongolian to participate in Division I basketball and has previously played at Dayton and San Francisco, Ezra Ausar also made his presence felt, tallying 10 points and securing 11 rebounds. Miro Little also contributed with 10 points.

For Queens, Chris Ashby netted 14 points, while Bryce Cash added 11. Asjon Anderson and Jaxon Pollard both chipped in with 10 points each. Malcom Wilson, who entered the game leading the nation with 14 blocks, managed to record five more against the Utes.

Madsen alongside Keanu Dawes was pivotal in a defining 15-1 run that extended Utah’s lead to as much as 28 points within the final five minutes of play. The Utes displayed a commanding performance, leading by as many as 35 points in the late stages of the game.

In a surge before halftime, Anderson managed to score eight points while the Royals knocked down three three-pointers in the last three minutes of the half, narrowing a 19-point deficit down to 10 as they entered the break.

Looking ahead, Utah will travel to Mississippi State for their next game on Sunday. Meanwhile, this marks Queens’ first visit to Utah, as they are set to face BYU on Wednesday.
