ATLANTA — In a decisive matchup on Tuesday night, Baye Ndongo made a significant impact on the court with 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, leading Georgia Tech to a solid victory over Texas Southern with a score of 81-62.
Ndongo sparked a pivotal moment for the Yellow Jackets, helping them secure a double-digit advantage at 32-21, which ignited a 12-0 scoring streak. By halftime, Georgia Tech had extended their lead to 24 points, 49-25, with a timely 3-pointer from Naithan George just before the buzzer sounded.
The team’s momentum continued in the second half, where Kowacie Reeves Jr. helped bolster the lead to its highest point at 30 after successfully making a 3-pointer with 12:20 left on the clock, bringing the score to 64-34. Although Georgia Tech managed only one more field goal in the final six minutes of the game, Reeves contributed significantly with two 3-pointers, finishing the night with 15 points. Javian McCollum also played well, adding 14 points, while Lance Terry chipped in with another 13 points for Georgia Tech (2-1). It’s worth noting that Ndongo has now recorded eight career double-doubles, following his previous performance where he scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a recent loss against North Florida.
On the opposing side, Duane Posey was the standout player for Texas Southern (1-3), finishing the game with 15 points.
Looking ahead, Georgia Tech is set to face their local rival, Georgia, on Friday.
