GREENSBORO, N.C. — Laila Hull made a significant impact in the second half, scoring 11 of her total 14 points, as the No. 14 ranked North Carolina secured a solid 66-47 victory over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday evening.
The game saw the Aggies manage to tie the score with the Tar Heels during the second quarter. However, by halftime, North Carolina had established a 35-21 lead. North Carolina A&T continued to challenge in the third quarter, reducing the deficit to nine points at one point. It wasn’t until Lanie Grant hit a three-pointer at the end of the third quarter that North Carolina extended their lead to 47-34, initiating a decisive 7-0 run to begin the fourth quarter that ultimately clinched the win for the Tar Heels.
For North Carolina (3-0), Lexi Donarski contributed 10 points to the overall score, with the team gearing up for their next tough matchup against No. 2 UConn on Friday. Freshman Hull, who had only scored two points before this game, showcased remarkable shooting skills with a 5-of-8 performance, including four three-pointers.
On the side of North Carolina A&T (0-3), Paris Locke led with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Jordyn Dorsey added 12 points, falling short of her average for the season thus far.
A standout factor in the Tar Heels’ victory was their ability to force 21 turnovers from the Aggies, converting those into 29 points. The North Carolina squad also benefitted from 27 points on fast breaks, with Reniya Kelly leading the defense with five of the team’s 15 steals. Additionally, they effectively limited North Carolina A&T’s shooting from beyond the arc, holding them to just 2-of-10 from three-point range.
