EUGENE, Ore. — In a dominant display, the No. 25 Oregon Ducks defeated North Texas 66-35 on Tuesday, marking their fourth consecutive win of the season.
Elisa Mevius and Nani Falatea were pivotal for the Ducks, each contributing 11 points to the victory. Mevius played a crucial role in the first quarter, scoring the last four points and helping Oregon establish a strong 14-4 lead as North Texas struggled, hitting only 2 of their 11 shots from the field. Falatea kicked off the second quarter with a field goal, pushing the lead to 17-6, and Oregon maintained a comfortable lead of ten points or more for the remainder of the game.
This victory improves Oregon’s record to 4-0 this season, marking the seventh time under the leadership of 11th-year coach Kelly Graves that the team has started a season with such a record. Notably, this win represents the 97th week the Ducks have been ranked in the AP Top 25 during Graves’ tenure, and it also reflects 177 weeks of the program’s history within the top echelon of women’s college basketball.
On the side of North Texas (2-1), Tommisha Lampkin led her team with six points, but the Mean Green faced challenges on the offensive end, finishing the game with a shooting percentage of just 24.5%, having made only 12 out of 49 attempts. This setback comes after North Texas previously won the American Athletic Conference regular-season title last year and was expected to finish second in the current season’s preseason coaches’ poll.
The Ducks entered this matchup fresh off a thrilling 76-74 win against then-12th-ranked Baylor, snapping a long 14-game losing streak against ranked opponents. Looking ahead, Oregon will continue its six-game homestand on Monday with a matchup against Grand Canyon.
