The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Tuesday that they have appointed Brian Kaplan as the new pitching coach for the team.
Kaplan brings a wealth of experience, having spent the last three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he worked as an assistant pitching coach and directed the pitching staff.
Under his guidance, the Phillies boasted one of the top starting rotations in Major League Baseball last year, featuring pitchers such as Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sánchez, and Ranger Suarez.
Prior to his coaching role, Kaplan also served as a consultant for the Phillies from 2019 to 2021.

Kaplan takes over the position following the departure of Brent Strom, who was let go after the Diamondbacks concluded the previous season with a 4.62 ERA, placing them 27th out of 30 teams.
Despite being a powerhouse in scoring runs, Arizona was unable to secure a spot in the playoffs.
Additionally, Kaplan is a co-founder of Cressey Sports Performance, a notable training facility that has been utilized by numerous high-profile Major League players, including Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Corey Kluber, and Devin Williams.
With Kaplan’s extensive background in pitching development, the Diamondbacks hope to enhance their performance on the mound and improve their chances for future success.
