NEW ORLEANS — Jose Alvarado, the guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, is dealing with a left hamstring strain, which the team announced on Tuesday will keep him sidelined for a minimum of three weeks.
The injury took place during the Pelicans’ recent game against the Brooklyn Nets, where they suffered a narrow 107-105 defeat. This loss marked the team’s fifth consecutive setback and their eighth loss out of the last nine games.
An MRI conducted on Tuesday confirmed the strain in Alvarado’s hamstring, adding to the growing list of injuries that have been impacting the Pelicans’ roster this season.
Alvarado, who is in his fourth year after playing at Georgia Tech, had been filling in as a starter for the Pelicans in the last seven games due to injuries affecting other guards, including Dejounte Murray (who is recovering from a broken hand) and CJ McCollum (who has a right adductor strain). His recent performances had shown promise, as he had notable scoring outputs of 18, 27, and 21 points in previous matchups, but he was limited to just 3 points over approximately 18 minutes in the loss to Brooklyn.
In addition to Alvarado, the Pelicans are also missing power forward Zion Williamson due to a left hamstring issue and forward Herb Jones, who is nursing a right shoulder injury.
On a positive note, wing player Trey Murphy III made his return during the match against Brooklyn after recovering from a preseason right hamstring injury.
The Pelicans are set to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in their next game on Wednesday night.
