MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Twins have announced significant changes in their front office, promoting Derek Falvey to president of baseball and business operations while Jeremy Zoll is set to become the new general manager. These transitions will take effect in the first quarter of 2025, following the decision by the Pohlad family, the team’s owners, to explore selling the franchise that was acquired by Carl Pohlad in 1984.
The Twins revealed their executive leadership shifts on Tuesday, with current president Dave St. Peter transitioning to a strategic adviser role. St. Peter, who began his career with the organization as an intern in 1990, has been instrumental in many of the Twins’ achievements, including securing public funding for Target Field and its establishment as a vital part of the North Loop area of downtown Minneapolis after its opening in 2010. Under his leadership, the organization has won the Baseball America’s Organization of the Year award on two occasions.
St. Peter also played a crucial role in moving the Twins’ broadcasts from their existing regional sports network to a new MLB-controlled streaming platform, especially significant given the recent challenges following Diamond Sports Group’s bankruptcy. In his newfound advisory position at age 57, St. Peter will assist the Pohlad family in navigating the sale exploration process. Joe Pohlad expressed his admiration for St. Peter, highlighting his integrity, compassion, and commitment to both the organization and its fans.
Although this front office shakeup comes amidst discussions of a potential sale, St. Peter noted that the planning was underway prior to those discussions. Thus, Falvey, 41, will expand his role from merely overseeing the baseball department to also including business operations. He has led the baseball side for the past eight seasons and has held the title of president of baseball operations for the last five years.
“I am fully convinced Derek is the right person to carry the torch, and I aim to support him in every possible way to ensure his long-term success,” St. Peter remarked to reporters. “This decision is important as it should signal stability and continuity to our organization and partners.”
Jeremy Zoll, 34 years old, has served as the assistant general manager since 2020, having started with the Twins in 2018 as the director of minor league operations. He has been responsible for various aspects of player performance, including biomechanics, nutrition, and mental health, while also managing the player development system. As the seventh general manager in Twins history, Zoll takes over following Thad Levine’s departure after the conclusion of the season.
Despite these business developments, Falvey, Zoll, and the front office face the impending task of rejuvenating a team that experienced a difficult end to the previous season, recording 18 losses in their last 24 games and missing the playoffs after securing the AL Central title in 2023. Although the Twins have clinched three division championships in Falvey’s eight years, the organization has yet to win the World Series since 1991 and has not reached the AL Championship Series since 2002, marking a rough patch preceding Falvey’s initial arrival.
St. Peter expressed a sense of regret about the team’s shortcomings in the postseason, stating, “I wish we had done more during that time because we had some teams and players that could have made a deeper impact. However, I take pride in our ability to compete.”
