Bangladesh seeks Interpol’s assistance in capturing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

A special tribunal in Bangladesh has requested that Interpol issue a red notice for the arrest of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is implicated in the deaths of numerous protesters during a mass uprising against her leadership.

Hasina left the country for India on August 5, along with several close aides and former ministers, bringing her 15-year tenure to an end.

Following her departure, Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus assumed the role of interim leader on August 8. He subsequently restructured the tribunal that previously dealt with charges of crimes against humanity related to the country’s war of independence from Pakistan in 1971.

B.M. Sultan Mahmud, who serves as a prosecutor at the tribunal, noted that they have reached out to Interpol through the police chief, seeking assistance from the organization, which is based in France, for the apprehension of Hasina and others involved.

The government under Yunus has pledged to pursue legal action against Hasina and is planning to seek her extradition from India.
