DENVER — Samuel Girard netted his inaugural goal of the season in dramatic fashion, scoring just under three minutes into overtime to secure a 3-2 victory for the Colorado Avalanche against the Nashville Predators on Monday night.

After an impressive breakaway, Girard was congratulated by his teammates as he found the back of the net with a well-placed shot past goaltender Juuse Saros.

In addition to Girard, defenseman Devon Toews also recorded his first goal of the season, while Mikko Rantanen contributed to the scoreboard for Colorado.

Goalkeeping was exceptional on both ends, with Alexandar Georgiev and Saros each turning away 29 shots during the game.

The Predators, who are embarking on a five-game road trip, saw goals from Luke Evangelista and Colton Sissons.

Highlights of the Game:

For the Predators, Sissons has demonstrated a knack for scoring against the Avalanche, marking both of his goals this season against them.

On the Avalanche side, Nathan MacKinnon avoided injury in a scare during the second period when he collided with Filip Forsberg at center ice, but he managed to recover quickly and continue the game.

A pivotal moment occurred mid-third period when Nashville’s Michael McCarron was seemingly injured after being checked into the boards by Rantanen. McCarron remained on the ice as play continued, prompting officials to halt the game momentarily to assess his condition.

Rantanen received a penalty for boarding following a review of the incident, but the Predators could not capitalize on the subsequent power play opportunity. Both teams finished the night without converting on their power play chances, going 0 for 2.

Statistical Insights:

MacKinnon’s assistance on Rantanen’s goal extended his streak to at least one point in all 16 games this season, while Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar experienced his first scoreless game of the year.

Looking Ahead:

The Avalanche will take on the Los Angeles Kings in their next matchup on Wednesday, while the Predators are set to play against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday as they continue their road schedule.
