The Mustangs (3-0) effectively expanded their slim six-point halftime advantage to 14 points midway through the second half. A notable stretch saw all 14 of those points come from free throws, until Malik Henry’s dunk narrowed the gap for Greensboro, making the score 65-54.

Shortly after, Ronald Polite III added a layup for the Spartans, but Samet Yigitoglu responded with a dunk and subsequent free throw that ignited an 11-3 run for SMU. This stretch culminated with a 3-pointer from B. J. Edwards around the three-minute mark, pushing the Mustangs’ lead to 78-59.

For Greensboro (1-1), Kenyon Giles led the scoring with 21 points, while Malik Henry added 14 and Polite contributed 12. Miles Jones made his mark on the game defensively, grabbing 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play, despite not taking any shots.

The Spartans briefly took the lead with a 3-pointer from Akrum Ahemed, making it 24-23 with roughly seven minutes remaining in the first half. However, B. J. Edwards countered with a 3-pointer of his own, establishing a 26-24 advantage for SMU, who went on to hold a 41-35 lead by halftime.
