COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Maryland Terrapins put together a strong performance on Monday night, securing an impressive 84-53 victory over Florida A&M, spearheaded by Julian Reese’s 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

Along with Reese’s standout display, the Terrapins showcased a well-rounded offensive effort with contributions from multiple players, including Selton Miguel with 14 points, Ja’Kobi Gillespie netting 12, Derik Queen adding 11, and Rodney Rice contributing 10 points off the bench. In total, 11 different players found the scoreboard during the matchup.

The Terrapins jumped out to a commanding start, scoring the first 15 points of the game. Miguel initiated the scoring with a three-point play and quickly followed up with a successful 3-pointer. It wasn’t until about midway through the first half that Florida A&M started to respond, as Tyler Shirley managed to hit a 3-pointer and Jamine Charles added a jump shot to narrow the gap to 17-12 with 12:10 remaining in the half.

After a dunk from Reese shifted the score to 21-14, Maryland kept Florida A&M from closing the gap for the next several minutes. Gillespie further widened the lead with a 3-pointer, pushing the score to 27-16 with 3:53 left in the first half, and the Terps maintained a comfortable double-digit lead as they headed into halftime with a score of 40-21, featuring both Reese and Miguel already reaching double figures.

For Florida A&M, Shirley ended the game with a solid performance, recording 10 points and seven rebounds.

Remarkably, this victory marks the first instance in Maryland’s history where the team has kicked off a season with three consecutive wins by 30 or more points. Previously, the Terrapins started their season with decisive victories, defeating Manhattan, 79-49, and Mount Saint Mary’s, 86-52.

The last time the Terrapins came close to achieving such a feat was during the 1972-73 season when they recorded significant wins over teams including Brown, Richmond, and Canisius, and again in 1975-76 with another string of high-scoring victories.
