Democratic Representative Mark Takano secured his reelection on Monday for a U.S. House position in California.
Takano emerged victorious against Republican challenger David Serpa.
As a seasoned incumbent, he holds the significant role of ranking member on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, in addition to his responsibilities on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
Before entering politics, Takano served as a classroom teacher and was a trustee for a community college.
The 39th Congressional District, which he represents, includes parts of Riverside County, located to the southeast of Los Angeles.
Takano’s victory was confirmed by an announcement at 9:08 p.m. EST.
