BARCELONA, Spain — Barcelona is facing more setbacks following its recent loss in the Spanish league, as the club announced that both Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski will be unavailable due to injuries.
Yamal, a standout young forward, is expected to be sidelined for up to three weeks due to an ankle injury, while Lewandowski, who is dealing with issues in the lumbar region of his back, will be rested for about 10 days. The injury updates follow a series of medical examinations conducted on Monday.
Currently, Lewandowski, the top scorer in La Liga with 14 goals from 12 matches, has significantly contributed to Barcelona’s attacking prowess along with 17-year-old Yamal. Together, they have played a crucial role in leading the team to outscore its rivals 40-12 in league games and 15-5 in the Champions League. Yamal has been particularly effective, assisting many of Lewandowski’s goals this season.
Barcelona’s recent 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad on Sunday marked the end of the team’s impressive seven-game winning streak across all competitions. Despite this setback, the Catalan club remains comfortably six points ahead of Real Madrid, who are in second place.
In the absence of Yamal, Fermín López stepped in during the match against Sociedad, where Barcelona struggled offensively, failing to register a single shot on target against the eighth-placed team. Lewandowski also had a goal ruled out for offside during the match, highlighting the team’s difficulties in capitalizing on opportunities.
As the players recover, Barcelona will need to find ways to maintain their strong position in La Liga while navigating the challenges posed by these injuries.
