Christensen nets 20 points in Hawaii’s 80-69 win over San Jose State during Rainbow Classic

HONOLULU — In an exciting matchup at the Rainbow Classic, Hawaii secured an 80-69 win over San Jose State on Sunday evening. Tanner Christensen was a key player for the Rainbow Warriors, contributing 20 points along with eight rebounds, helping his team improve to a 2-0 record this season.

Tom Beattie also made a significant impact, scoring 16 points while shooting 6 for 9 from the field, which included one 3-pointer out of three attempts, as well as hitting 3 of his 4 free throws. Harry Rouhliadeff added to the team’s efforts with 12 points, making three out of five field-goal attempts and shooting 50% from beyond the arc with two three-pointers out of four attempts. He rounded out his performance by sinking 4 of 7 free throws.

For San Jose State, which is still seeking its first victory of the season with a current record of 0-3, Donavan Yap emerged as the leading scorer, netting 16 points and accruing three steals. His teammates also contributed, with Sadaidriene Hall scoring 14 points and Josh Uduje adding another 10.

The game took a pivotal turn in the second half; although Hawaii entered halftime down by four points (38-34), they surged ahead by outscoring the Spartans by 15 points in the final period. Tanner Christensen was instrumental during this stretch, amassing 14 points in the second half alone.

Looking ahead, Hawaii’s next game is scheduled for Tuesday at home against Pacific, while San Jose State will face Life Pacific on Monday.
