TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Following a disappointing 52-3 defeat against No. 10 Notre Dame, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell made significant changes to his coaching staff by letting go of both his offensive and defensive coordinators on Sunday.
Norvell’s decision saw the termination of offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, and receivers coach Ron Dugans. In a statement regarding this decision, Norvell expressed gratitude for the contributions these coaches made during their five years together at Florida State but emphasized the team’s failure to meet the program’s high standards this season.
“I appreciate the work these three men have provided over the last five years with me at Florida State,” Norvell stated. “Unfortunately, we have not upheld the Florida State standard with our results on the field this season. I did not make any of these decisions lightly, but I felt changes needed to be made to elevate our program back to where we all desire it to be.”
The Seminoles currently hold a record of 1-9 and will enter a bye week before their remaining two games, the first of which is scheduled against Charleston Southern. Randy Shannon, previously serving as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, is set to take over the defensive coordinator role, while remaining staff members will share additional responsibilities to fill the gap left by the terminated coaches.
