Ames, Iowa — Addy Brown delivered an impressive performance with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Audi Crooks contributed 17 points and 11 boards, leading the eighth-ranked Iowa State Cyclones to a decisive 84-56 victory over the Southern Jaguars on Sunday.
Brown has now achieved a double-double in two out of the first three games this season, marking the 12th time in her career that she has accomplished this feat. For Crooks, this game marked her first double-double of the season and the ninth in her career with the Cyclones, who remain undefeated at 3-0.
Additionally, Emily Ryan showcased her playmaking skills by dishing out 10 assists, bringing her career total to over 800. She also pitched in eight points and grabbed five rebounds during the game. Off the bench, Sydney Harris continued her strong performance, adding 11 points for a second consecutive game.
On the other side, Aleighyah Fontenot led the Jaguars, who now sit at 0-3, scoring 16 points, with Aniya Gourdine contributing 10 points to the effort.
In terms of performances, Southern managed to score a season-high of 56 points, shooting at 34.4% efficiency. Notably, 10 out of the 12 players who took to the court for Southern found the scoring sheet.
A significant aspect of the game was Iowa State’s dominance on the boards, out-rebounding Southern 50-25, representing their largest rebounding margin of the current season.
The turning point came early as Iowa State surged to a 17-0 lead, managing to keep Southern scoreless for the first five and a half minutes of the game.
Noteworthy is Brown’s shooting accuracy; she went a perfect 5 for 5 from the field in the first half, tallying 12 points. Ultimately, she finished the game shooting 8 of 9 and was 2 for 2 from beyond the arc. Through three games this season, she has a shooting percentage of 6 of 12 from three-point range.
