BERLIN — Omar Marmoush continued his impressive form, as Eintracht Frankfurt managed to fend off a late resurgence to secure a 3-2 victory over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
In a dramatic finish, Chris Führich of Stuttgart found the back of the net in the seventh minute of stoppage time, igniting jubilant celebrations among the home crowd. However, the excitement was short-lived when VAR intervention ruled the goal offside, leaving the Stuttgart players and supporters visibly disappointed.
“It’s more than bitter,” expressed Ermedin Demirovi?, who had previously squandered a penalty opportunity for Stuttgart. “I feel empty.”
After falling behind 3-0, Stuttgart managed to score two late goals, with Josha Vagnoman netting one in the 86th minute and Nick Woltemade adding another just before the final whistle. This near comeback was overshadowed by a standout performance from Marmoush, who has been on fire this season.
The Egyptian forward increased his goal tally to 11 in just 10 league matches, matching the total of Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, who reached the number primarily through three penalty conversions. Marmoush has contributed with two penalties among his total.
Despite a missed opportunity early in the game, it was Stuttgart that initially looked more threatening. Demirovi?’s penalty shot was saved by Frankfurt’s goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, and additional efforts from Julian Chabot and Enzo Millot failed to find the target.
The game shifted dramatically when Marmoush delivered a corner that was expertly headed in by Hugo Ekitiké just before halftime. This goal marked Ekitiké’s fifth in the league and represented Marmoush’s eighth assist of the season, matching Kane’s contribution in this regard.
After the interval, Marmoush played a pivotal role once again, assisting Ansgar Knauff, whose deflected pass found Nathaniel Brown for a goal in the 55th minute.
Marmoush capped off the scoring with a stunning free kick that curled inside the left post in the 62nd minute, ultimately standing as the decisive goal of the match.
With this victory, Frankfurt strengthened their position in third place, leading defending champions Bayer Leverkusen by three points, while trailing league leaders Bayern by six.
Earlier in the day, Augsburg and Hoffenheim played to a goalless stalemate, while Heidenheim was set to host Wolfsburg later in a full schedule of Bundesliga action.
