TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The vibrant celebration of Homecoming Week at Tuskegee University in Alabama took a tragic turn early Sunday morning when a shooting incident resulted in one fatality, according to university officials.
The deceased individual was not affiliated with the university, though several of the injured were students of Tuskegee. Authorities have reached out to the deceased person’s family, while those injured are currently receiving medical attention at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.
The violent episode occurred on campus during the concluding moments of the historically Black university’s centennial Homecoming festivities. In an official statement, the university mentioned that it is working to account for all students and communicate with their families regarding the incident.
When contacted, the Tuskegee University police department indicated that additional information was not immediately available. Meanwhile, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation has taken up the case to look into the shooting further.
This unfortunate event has cast a shadow over what is typically a joyful occasion for the Tuskegee community, prompting concern and reflection among students and alumni alike.
