CEDAR CITY, Utah — In an impressive outing, Hercy Miller came off the bench to net 18 points, guiding Southern Utah to an 80-75 victory over Florida International on Saturday evening.

Miller not only led the scoring but also grabbed five rebounds for the Thunderbirds, who improved their record to 2-0. Tavi Jackson made a notable impact as well, contributing 17 points with an efficient shooting performance that included making 6 of 7 attempts from the field and 3 out of 9 from the free-throw line. Jackson also recorded nine rebounds and four steals during the game. Meanwhile, Jamir Simpson added to the tally with 16 points, hitting 3 of 10 from the floor and converting 10 of 13 free throws.

On the opposing side, the Panthers struggled to find their rhythm, currently holding a record of 0-2. Jayden Brewer was the standout player for FIU, scoring 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Ashton Williamson also made contributions, finishing the night with 14 points and five assists, while Vianney Salatchoum chipped in with 10 points and two blocks.

Southern Utah managed to lead at halftime, 36-34, with Jackson contributing 10 points before the break. The Thunderbirds then capitalized in the second half, executing an impressive 8-0 run that helped them expand their lead to 12 points, at 63-51, with just 8 minutes remaining in the contest.
