LAFAYETTE, La. — In an impressive display, Dre’lyn Washington rushed for 123 yards and scored twice on just eight carries, leading Louisiana-Lafayette to a commanding 55-19 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday evening.

With this win, Louisiana improved its record to 8-1, remaining undefeated in the conference with a 5-0 record. The team has now secured six consecutive victories since a narrow 41-33 defeat to Tulane back on September 21, establishing themselves as the sole undefeated team in the Sun Belt Conference.

Quarterback Ben Woolridge played a significant role in the game, completing 17 of his 26 passes for 264 yards. He threw an early 20-yard touchdown pass to Harvey Broussard, which set the tone for the contest with 9:07 remaining in the first quarter. Shortly after, Kenneth Almendares added a 44-yard field goal, extending their lead to 10-0 about six minutes later.

Washington showcased his speed and agility with a remarkable 46-yard touchdown run, evading defenders near the line of scrimmage. Zylan Perry joined the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown, and Davis capped off a substantial 94-yard drive, highlighted by a 47-yard pass from Woolridge to Robert Williams, with his own 13-yard touchdown run, bringing the score to 31-0 with only 1:47 left before the halftime break.

Just before halftime, Arkansas State managed to find the end zone when Jaylen Raynor connected with Adam Jones on a 16-yard touchdown pass, putting their first points on the board in the final moments of the half.

In total, the Ragin’ Cajuns amassed an impressive 579 yards of offense, with 278 of those yards coming from their rushing attack. For Arkansas State, Zak Wallace and Timmy McClain added rushing touchdowns in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to mount a significant comeback.
