Rodrigues nets crucial shootout goal, leading Panthers to a 4-3 victory over Flyers for their seventh consecutive win

SUNRISE, Fla. — In an exhilarating game on Saturday night, the Florida Panthers triumphed over the Philadelphia Flyers with a 4-3 shootout victory, extending their winning streak to seven games. Evan Rodrigues played a crucial role, netting the decisive goal in the fifth round of the shootout, while goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky showcased his skill by stopping five shots during overtime.

Florida’s scoring was led by Sam Bennett, Dmitry Kulikov, and Nate Schmidt, who all found the back of the net in regulation play. In addition to his game-winning goal, Rodrigues contributed with two assists, highlighting his impactful performance. With this victory, Bobrovsky achieved his 404th career win, surpassing Grant Fuhr to take sole possession of 12th place on the NHL’s all-time wins list.

On the other side, the Flyers saw goals from Anthony Richard, Joel Farabee, and Garnet Hathaway, while Scott Laughton provided two assists. In the exciting shootout, Aleksander Barkov also scored for Florida, with Owen Tippett matching him for Philadelphia.

In terms of performance statistics, the Flyers have now recorded a disappointing record of 1-9-1 this season when conceding three or more goals. Samuel Ersson made 28 saves but couldn’t secure the win for Philadelphia. Meanwhile, the Panthers continued their strong performance, having scored three goals in the second period for the second consecutive game. They have a perfect record of 6-0-0 this season when achieving such scoring in any period.

A notable tradition continued as the Panthers opted to wear their pregame robes, originally a gift from their recent trip to Finland, for the fourth straight game as a part of their winning ritual.

In a landmark moment for coaching history, the match marked the 2,000th game for Florida’s head coach Paul Maurice, making him the second coach in NHL history to reach this milestone after the legendary Scotty Bowman, who ranks first with 2,494 games.

Looking ahead, the Flyers will host the San Jose Sharks on Monday, initiating a series of six of seven games at home. The Panthers, meanwhile, are set to entertain the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday as they begin a two-game series.
