BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — In a decisive performance, Torin Baker returned a blocked punt for a touchdown, contributing to a rapid succession of scores as Tennessee Tech triumphed over Samford with a final score of 27-7 on Saturday.

The game commenced without any points in the first half, as both teams failed to capitalize on their opportunities with missed field goals during the non-conference match-up. However, the Golden Eagles (5-5) broke the deadlock when Aidan Littles dashed for a 27-yard touchdown run, shortly after Jalin Shepherd intercepted a pass midway through the third quarter.

Following a stop of the Bulldogs on the following drive, Miles Cooney successfully blocked a punt, allowing Baker to recover the ball and sprint 31 yards into the end zone, securing a 13-0 advantage after the extra point attempt was unsuccessful.

Just moments later, Aaron Swafford tackled Samford quarterback Quincy Crittendon, leading to a fumble recovery by Cayman Spaulding on the Bulldogs’ 16-yard line. Jordan Yates later extended their lead with a 1-yard touchdown run, coming after a 15-yard run that set up the short yardage situation.

The Bulldogs (3-6) managed to score when Crittendon connected with DJ Rias on a 20-yard touchdown pass. However, the Golden Eagles quickly answered back, as Tremel Jones powered around the left side for a remarkable 57-yard touchdown run after benefiting from a roughing the passer penalty on the prior plays.

This contest saw strong defensive performances from both teams, with Tennessee Tech finishing the game with 283 total yards, compared to Samford’s 184 yards.
