Vaughn contributes to 3 touchdowns as Alcorn State overpowers Texas Southern 42-21

LORMAN, Miss. — In a standout performance, Xzavier Vaughn led Alcorn State to a convincing 42-21 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday.
Vaughn showcased his dual-threat capabilities by rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for another, finishing the game with 130 yards on 13 carries and completing 13 of 18 passes for a total of 171 yards.

The game got off to a strong start for Alcorn State as Vaughn connected with Tyran Warren for a spectacular 60-yard touchdown pass, marking the Braves’ first score. He continued to make an impact by running for a 4-yard touchdown, putting the Braves ahead 14-7.

At halftime, the score was tied at 14-14. In the second half, Jacoria Sewell broke the deadlock with a 5-yard rushing touchdown, and Vaughn added to the lead with a remarkable 39-yard dash into the end zone, giving Alcorn State a commanding 28-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In addition to Vaughn’s impressive performance, Sewell, Anthony Williams, and Omarion Blakes also contributed to the scoring with rushing touchdowns, enhancing the Braves’ record to 5-5 overall and 4-2 within the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

On the other side, Texas Southern’s Jace Wilson was a key player, accounting for both a passing and rushing touchdown. The Tigers also saw a defensive score when Jayde Williams returned a fumble for 42 yards, which resulted in their first points of the game.

The outcome solidified Alcorn State’s position as a competitive force in their conference as they continue their season.
