FRISCO, Texas — Dak Prescott is currently seeking a second medical opinion in hopes of avoiding the need for season-ending surgery on his torn hamstring, as confirmed by an individual familiar with the matter on Saturday.

The talented quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys is set to consult a specialist on Monday. The person, who wishes to remain anonymous due to the private nature of the discussions, noted that no definitive decision has been reached yet.

Prescott sustained his injury during last week’s close 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. If it turns out that surgical intervention is necessary, this would mark the second significant injury Prescott has faced in the past five seasons at the age of 31.

In Prescott’s absence, Cooper Rush is slated to take over the starting role when the Cowboys face off against their NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, who currently hold a record of 6-2.

The Cowboys, defending champions of their division, are currently struggling with a three-game losing streak and Prescott’s injury poses a serious threat to their playoff aspirations, which have been ongoing for three years now. It is highly likely that Prescott will be sidelined for at least a month. In 2020, he missed the last 11 games due to a broken ankle, which was the last time Dallas failed to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Although Prescott continued to play after sustaining his hamstring injury, he did not participate in the fourth quarter of the game.
