COLLEGE PARK, Md. — In a commanding performance, Rodney Rice, coming off the bench, recorded a career-best 28 points, 26 of which came in the first half, leading Maryland to a decisive 86-52 victory over Mount St. Mary’s on Friday evening.
Rice exhibited impressive shooting accuracy, making 10 of his 14 attempts, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Joining him in the scoring efforts, Jakobi Gillespie contributed 13 points. Selton Miguel also made a solid contribution with 11 points, while Julian Reese narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and securing 10 rebounds. The Terrapins’ defense was particularly notable, as they amassed 16 steals and capitalized on 25 turnovers from the Mountaineers (2-0).
Derik Queen, who had a standout opening game with 22 points and 20 rebounds, was held to just eight points and a single rebound in 20 minutes during this encounter.
On the other side, Dallas Hobbs led Mount St. Mary’s (1-1) with 21 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field, while Dola Adebayo added another 11 points.
Mount St. Mary’s started strong, taking an early lead with five of the initial seven points scored by Adebayo. However, Maryland soon tightened its defense and seized control of the game, pulling ahead 17-16 with 11 minutes to go in the first half. By halftime, the Terrapins had built a substantial lead of 32 points, leading 58-26.
This victory continued Maryland’s impressive streak, marking their 11th consecutive home win in non-conference matchups and extending their dominance to 17 straight victories against unranked non-conference opponents.
