CINCINNATI — In an impressive display of teamwork and offensive skill, Xavier secured a 94-80 victory over IUPUI on Friday evening, led by Ryan Conwell’s impressive contribution of 19 points.
Conwell demonstrated his proficiency by shooting 6 of 11 from the field and sinking 3 out of 6 attempts from three-point territory. He also converted all four free throw attempts, playing a crucial role in the Musketeers’ performance as they improved to a record of 2-0 for the season.
Zach Freemantle also made a significant impact, adding 17 points to the scoreboard with an efficient shooting performance of 5 of 8, while hitting 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. He rounded out his performance with six rebounds. Meanwhile, Dayvion McKnight had a perfect night from the field, hitting all six of his attempts, which included four successful threes, accumulating another 17 points.
On the opposing side, Jarvis Walker was the standout for the Jaguars, leading the team’s scoring efforts with 20 points along with two steals. Paul Zilinskas supported Walker’s efforts with 17 points, while Alec Millender added 12 points and distributed six assists.
Xavier took control of the game late in the first half, seizing the lead with 3:39 remaining. Conwell’s nine points in the first half were pivotal in giving his team a slight 38-33 advantage at halftime. After the break, Xavier maintained their momentum, launching a dominant 12-2 run that widened their lead from five points to 15. In total, the Musketeers outperformed IUPUI in the second half by nine points, with McKnight showcasing his prowess by scoring 12 points to lead the way after halftime.
