BERLIN — Freiburg’s quest for their inaugural Bundesliga win at Union Berlin continues as they were held to a goalless draw in the capital on Friday evening.
The match saw Freiburg struggle with their penalty performance as they missed their fifth consecutive attempt. Early in the game, Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo took a penalty shot, but it was expertly saved by Union’s goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow. The rebound fell to captain Christian Günter, who narrowly missed out on capitalizing on the missed opportunity.
Both teams had their moments, with Union’s strong start carrying into the second half. Freiburg’s keeper Noah Atubolu showcased his skills by making key saves, including one from Christopher Trimmel’s shot following a corner, and another against Yorbe Vertessen shortly thereafter.
This draw propelled Freiburg to the fourth position in the league standings before the completion of the tenth round of matches. Meanwhile, Union retained their seventh position, extending their unbeaten streak at home for the current season.
