NEW YORK — Aaron Boone will continue as the manager of the New York Yankees for an eighth season, with the team activating his option for 2025 on Friday.
Under Boone’s leadership, the Yankees have compiled an impressive record of 603 wins and 429 losses, clinching three American League East titles and securing one pennant. This season marked a significant achievement for the team as they reached the World Series for the first time since 2009, although they fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.
Boone’s current contract, which he signed in October 2021, spans three years and includes a team option for 2025. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman noted that the deadline for opting into this contract is ten days post-World Series.
Cashman praised Boone, stating, “Aaron is a steadying presence in our clubhouse and possesses a profound ability to connect with and foster relationships with his players. Consistently exhibiting these skills in such a demanding and pressurized market is what makes him one of the game’s finest managers.”
Boone has now joined the ranks of Yankees managers who have led the team to the playoffs in six of their first seven seasons, a feat previously achieved by legendary figures Casey Stengel and Joe Torre.
The Yankees announced that Boone will address this decision during a press conference scheduled for Monday.
In response to the team’s decision, Boone expressed his gratitude, commenting, “I am grateful for the trust placed in me to lead this team. It’s a responsibility — and an opportunity — that I will never take lightly.”
