SALT LAKE CITY — In an impressive performance on Thursday night, Gabe Madsen tallied 25 points to eclipse the 1,000-point milestone in his career, leading Utah to a commanding 98-63 victory over Central Arkansas.

The Utes demonstrated their long-range shooting prowess once again, matching their school record with 19 three-pointers, as they also accomplished this feat during their opening game against Alcorn State, where they won 100-59. In both encounters, Utah showcased exceptional shooting, going 19 of 38 against Alcorn State and 19 of 50 in the matchup against Central Arkansas, narrowly missing opportunities to extend the record as they couldn’t convert their last five attempts in the closing minutes.

Gabe Madsen made six three-pointers for the second consecutive game, while his brother Mason added five to contribute 15 points to the cause. Utah’s scoring was further bolstered by Mike Sharavjamts and Ezra Ausar, who each netted 13 points. This victory marked the Utes’ 1,900th win in program history.
For Central Arkansas, Layne Taylor led the scoring with 15 points, closely followed by Brayden Fagbemi with 13.

Utah took control early in the game as Sharavjamts scored a layup on a fast break followed by a three-pointer, propelling the Utes to a quick 16-4 lead within seven minutes of play. The pace continued with Hunter Erickson and Mason Madsen combining for consecutive three-pointers, stretching the lead to 31-10. Soon after, Gabe Madsen sparked an 11-0 run with a three-pointer, pushing the score to 42-13 with just under three minutes left in the first half.

By halftime, the Utes had already drained 10 three-pointers, with the Madsens contributing six between them, leaving Central Arkansas struggling at 18 points as they shot only 23% from the field (7 of 31) and a mere 3 of 17 from beyond the arc.

The second half saw the momentum continue for Utah, ignited by an 11-0 run, which included four more three-pointers, three made by the Madsens, extending the lead to 64-26 with just under 14 minutes remaining. Jake Wahlin’s three-pointer shortly thereafter amplified the Utes’ lead to a game-high 41 points.

Sharavjamts had a notable performance with eight rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and two blocks, completing an impressive game without a single turnover. Keanu Dawes also made his presence felt on the boards with 11 rebounds, helping the Utes dominate the rebounding battle with a 51-39 advantage.
