Victor Osimhen made a significant impact in the Europa League match on Thursday, scoring two key goals that led Galatasaray to a 3-2 victory over Tottenham.
Osimhen netted his first goal in European competition for Galatasaray, following his transfer from Napoli, with a precise low shot inside the right post in the 31st minute, which gave the home team a 2-1 advantage. Just eight minutes later, he added his second by heading in a beautifully curled cross from Dries Mertens on the right flank.

This match marked Tottenham’s initial defeat in the tournament after a string of three consecutive wins. In contrast, Galatasaray remained undefeated, boasting three victories along with one draw.

Before the games on Thursday, there was a moment of silence observed in memory of the victims who lost their lives in the severe flooding that occurred in Spain.

In Istanbul, Galatasaray took an early lead in the sixth minute when Yunus Akgün capitalized on a defensive error from Tottenham, volleying a ball from outside the box into the net after a poorly cleared free kick by Mertens.

Tottenham countered in the 19th minute with a goal from Will Lankshear, who was playing just his second match for the club. He scored from close range after receiving a cross from Brennan Johnson. However, his contributions were cut short when he received a second yellow card and was sent off during the hour mark of the match.

Following the dismissal, Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke managed to reduce the deficit with a backheel goal in the 69th minute; however, it wasn’t enough to secure a point for the visitors.

In other matches of the day, Eintracht Frankfurt secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Slavia Prague thanks to a second-half goal from Omar Marmoush, while Roma could only manage a 1-1 draw at Union Saint-Gilloise, further complicating their season following a recent 3-2 defeat against Hellas Verona in Serie A.

Rangers played to a 1-1 draw against last season’s Conference League winners, Olympiacos, while Athletic Bilbao continued their impressive form with a 2-1 win over Ludogorets, remaining unbeaten with three wins and a draw.

Qarabag caused an upset by defeating Bodø/Glimt 3-1 in Norway, earning their first points in the competition. The match between Nice and Twente ended in a 2-2 draw, with both teams finishing the match down to ten players.

Manchester United was set to host PAOK later in the evening, searching for their first win in this year’s tournament.
