Woman requests dismissal of battery and assault charges against Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young

A woman, who had previously identified herself as the ex-girlfriend of Colbie Young, a wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs, has rescinded her statements that led to his recent arrest on charges of misdemeanor battery and assault on October 8.

Following the incident, Georgia’s head coach Kirby Smart suspended Young after the Athens-Clarke County Police took him into custody due to the altercation involving the 20-year-old woman.

Kim Stephens, Young’s attorney, released an affidavit on Thursday, which was provided by the woman, stating her desire to have all charges against Young dismissed.

The woman indicated in the affidavit that she first communicated her intention to drop the charges to the Athens-Clarke County Solicitor’s Office on October 14 and reiterated this request multiple times. She expressed concern that her wishes had not yet been acted upon, which prompted her to make the request public.

The police report from the incident mentioned that the woman, who is expecting a child, went to Young’s residence to discuss their relationship. However, tensions escalated after she discovered he was on the phone with another woman.

The report indicated that the woman alleged she felt threatened by Young during their conversation. The officer who apprehended Young noted that he did not admit to causing any injuries, despite the woman displaying a bruise, discoloration, and redness.

In her affidavit, the woman made it clear that she retracts any claims suggesting that Young tried to harm her or her unborn child. She emphasized that Young did not physically touch her during their dispute and insisted that no acts of violence were committed against her or her unborn child, including any actions classified as simple battery or assault.

As No. 2 ranked Georgia is set to face No. 16 Mississippi on Saturday, Young’s status with the team remains unchanged given the ongoing charges against him.

Stephens stated that he has submitted the woman’s affidavit to both the prosecuting attorney and the University of Georgia, asserting that the charges against Young “should be dismissed immediately” and that the suspension from the team ought to be lifted.

Young, who hails from Binghamton, New York, joined Georgia after spending two seasons with Miami. In the current season, he has recorded 11 receptions, totaling 149 yards and two touchdowns over five games, including two starts.
