PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Authorities reported that a man armed with a rifle was shot and killed by state police after he had barricaded himself in a New Hampshire bed-and-breakfast for approximately ten hours.
The incident unfolded at the Federal House Inn in Plymouth, located in the picturesque White Mountains region of the state, when law enforcement responded to a disturbance call on Wednesday afternoon. According to the state’s attorney general’s office, gunfire could be heard emanating from the building, leading to the man fortifying himself inside.
A crisis negotiation team along with a SWAT unit were dispatched to the scene, where they worked to establish communication with the individual for several hours, as revealed in a news release by the attorney general’s office.
Around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, the SWAT team reported that they had engaged the suspect with gunfire, with six officers from the unit discharging their firearms. Following the incident, the man was discovered near a doorway on the first floor and was subsequently pronounced deceased, according to officials.
At this time, there is no clear indication if the deceased was a guest at the bed-and-breakfast, and authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the motives behind his actions.
