RICHMOND, Va. — In an impressive season opener, the Richmond Spiders dominated the Mount Olive Trojans with a decisive score of 101-68 on Wednesday evening.
Delonnie Hunt emerged as a standout player, contributing 17 points along with three steals for Richmond (1-0). Dusan Neskovic also had a notable performance, going 3 of 6 from the field and 2 of 4 from beyond the arc, finishing the game with 16 points, while also hitting 8 out of 11 free throws. Collin Tanner added to the scoring efforts with 13 points, having shot 4 of 7 overall, including 3 for 5 from three-point territory.
The Trojans were led by Lureon Walker, who managed to score 14 points. Chase Dawson followed closely with 12 points, and Redford Dunton chipped in with seven points to the total.
Richmond took control of the game midway through the first half, seizing the lead at 10:11 and maintaining it thereafter. Hunt was instrumental during this period, scoring 11 points before halftime, enabling his team to secure a 52-37 advantage at the break.
The Spiders intensified their efforts in the second half, extending their 14-point lead with a dominant 14-0 run, which pushed their advantage to 28 points. They outscored the Trojans by an impressive 18 points in the last half, with Neskovic leading the second-half charge, contributing eight points during that time.
The game showcased Richmond’s offensive capability and solid teamwork, setting a promising tone for the rest of the season as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
