In Memphis, Tennessee, Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis will be absent from the game on Wednesday evening against the Memphis Grizzlies, as confirmed by Lakers head coach JJ Redick prior to tip-off.
Davis sustained a contusion on his left heel during the Lakers’ recent 115-103 defeat to the Detroit Pistons on Monday night. Despite the injury, Davis logged an impressive 39 minutes on the court that game, where he scored 37 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Redick mentioned that there hasn’t been a specific diagnosis for Davis’s condition, which he referred to as soreness. The coach is hopeful that Davis could return in time for the upcoming home game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.
“I don’t anticipate him being out for Friday’s match,” Redick stated, underscoring that the team’s focus is on the players’ long-term well-being.
Before this setback, Davis had a strong performance throughout the season, starting all seven games for the Lakers. The team holds a record of 4-3 as of Wednesday evening. On average, Davis has been contributing 32.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, logging more than 36 minutes each outing.
