MUNICH — In a display of solidarity and compassion, fans of Bayern Munich refrained from singing or chanting during their team’s 1-0 victory against Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, honoring the victim of a medical emergency that occurred in the stands.

The mood inside Bayern’s arena shifted noticeably shortly after the match commenced, when it became evident that an emergency situation had arisen, prompting the need for paramedics and law enforcement assistance.

The supporters’ group, known as Club Nr. 12, announced their decision to abstain from typical support due to the medical incident, emphasizing that “life comes before sport.” They expressed their heartfelt wishes for strength and support for the family and friends affected by the situation.

Chants were not resumed even after emergency personnel carried the affected individual out on a stretcher, showing that the fans remained united in their respect.

Bayern Munich managed to secure the win thanks to a header from Jamal Musiala in the 67th minute, which was assisted by Harry Kane. This victory marked the end of Bayern’s two-game losing streak and was their second win of the group stage.

Although the fans celebrated the goal with enthusiasm, the overall atmosphere continued to feel subdued for the duration of the match, highlighting the somber event that overshadowed the evening.
