Padres’ skipper Mike Shildt signs two-year extension to remain with team until 2027

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres have announced a two-year contract extension for manager Mike Shildt, ensuring his leadership role through the 2027 season. This decision was made public on Wednesday.

Shildt, who took over as the team’s manager in November 2023, originally signed a two-year deal at that time. Under his guidance, the Padres recorded a solid 93-69 record this past season, securing a second-place finish in the National League West, just five games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres had a notable performance in the postseason, sweeping Atlanta in the Wild Card Series 2-0, but were eventually eliminated in a five-game Division Series against the Dodgers after holding a lead of 2-1.

General manager A.J. Preller praised Shildt’s leadership skills in a statement, highlighting his “unwavering commitment to winning” and ability to elevate the team’s performance. Shildt previously managed the St. Louis Cardinals from 2019 to 2021, guiding them to the playoffs during each of his three seasons at the helm.

With this extension, the Padres demonstrate their confidence in Shildt’s capabilities as they aim for greater success in the coming years.
