In a recent development at the WTA Finals held in Riyadh, Jessica Pegula announced her withdrawal from the tournament due to a left knee injury on Wednesday.
The American tennis player, who faced defeats in her initial two matches and was thus eliminated from advancing to the semifinals, will be succeeded in the Orange Group by Daria Kasatkina, who is the first alternate and holds the ninth rank in the world.

Initially, Pegula was set to compete against the second-ranked Iga Swiatek in what would have been her final round-robin contest on Thursday.
However, she made the decision to step back from the match as she did not feel “comfortable moving on court.”
In her statement, the sixth-ranked player expressed, “I’ve been kind of struggling with a little bit of an injury, and for whatever reason, it really flared up this week. I’m not really sure why.”
She further noted that before the start of the tournament, her knee felt good, but issues began to arise just prior to her first match.

During the tournament, Pegula suffered defeats against Coco Gauff and Barbora Krejcikova.
Meanwhile, Swiatek still has an opportunity to secure a spot in the semifinals along with Gauff from her group.
For this to happen, Swiatek would need to defeat Kasatkina, while Gauff must also secure a victory over Krejcikova, enabling Swiatek to reach her third consecutive WTA Finals semifinal.
