MADRID, Spain — Real Madrid’s midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni has suffered a sprained left ankle, putting his participation in France’s upcoming Nations League fixtures in jeopardy.
Tchouaméni sustained the injury during Real Madrid’s 3-1 defeat against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The results of medical examinations carried out on Wednesday confirmed the ankle sprain, although the club has not disclosed an estimated duration for his recovery.
France is set to face Israel and Italy in the Nations League later this month. Tchouaméni had recently taken on a leadership role for the national team in the absence of Kylian Mbappé, serving as captain last month.
His potential unavailability could pose challenges for the French squad as they prepare for these important matches.
