Voter participation in Wisconsin’s presidential election approaches 73%

MADISON, Wis. — Approximately 73% of the eligible voters in Wisconsin participated in the 2024 presidential election, leading to the highest recorded number of ballots cast in the state’s history, according to unofficial data.

An estimated 3.4 million residents of Wisconsin cast their votes in the presidential election which resulted in President-elect Donald Trump securing victory on Wednesday. This total may see a slight increase as the last few remaining ballots are counted. In comparison, just over 3.3 million people voted in the previous presidential election held in 2020.

The voter turnout for this election reached 72.6%, which reflects a voting-age population nearing 4.7 million. This figure is slightly lower than the 72.9% turnout reported in the 2020 election.

The highest recorded voter turnout percentage for the state since at least 1948 was 73.2%, achieved in the 2004 election, as per the records maintained by the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

However, participation in the two additional statewide races held during this election saw a decline. Around 30,000 fewer individuals voted in the U.S. Senate race featuring incumbent Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin and her Republican challenger Eric Hovde. Additionally, over 193,000 fewer voters cast their ballots regarding a constitutional amendment aimed at restricting voting eligibility to U.S. citizens.
