Republican Representative Ryan Zinke has successfully secured reelection for a U.S. House seat in Montana, marking his second term in office.
Zinke’s district was reconfigured following the acquisition of an additional congressional seat for the state as a result of the 2020 census.
In this election cycle, Zinke encountered a familiar opponent in Democrat Monica Tranel, who had previously come within a few points of winning the seat in the last election held in 2022.
Zinke’s political career includes a stint as the U.S. Secretary of the Interior under the Trump administration, a role he held for nearly two years before stepping down amid inquiries into several ethics issues.
He previously held the position as Montana’s sole U.S. House representative from 2015 until early 2017, when he left to accept the cabinet role.
The announcement of Zinke’s victory came early in the morning, at 6:28 a.m. EST, confirming his continued influence in Montana’s political landscape.
