Democratic Representative Rosa DeLauro has successfully secured her reelection to the U.S. House, representing Connecticut.
On Wednesday, DeLauro clinched her 18th term by defeating Republican challenger Michael Massey, who has a controversial background as a former armed bank robber and is known for his support of ex-President Donald Trump.
DeLauro, currently the highest-ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, has centered her campaign around key issues such as abortion rights, establishing a permanent child tax credit, and increasing funding for higher education initiatives.
She has been serving her district, which encompasses New Haven, since 1991.
The announcement of her victory came in the early hours, with the results being confirmed just after 1:30 a.m. EST.
