AP Race Update: Democrat Judy Chu secures reelection in California’s 28th Congressional District for the U.S. House.

Democratic Representative Judy Chu has successfully secured reelection for her U.S. House seat in California.
She triumphed over her opponent, Republican lawyer April Verlato, who is also a city council member and has previously served as the mayor of Arcadia.
First elected to Congress in 2009, Chu has a significant political background.
She is currently a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and serves as the chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.
Prior to her congressional role, Chu was a trustee on a school board as well as a city council member and mayor in Monterey Park.
Additionally, she also held a position in California’s state Legislature.
Her district, the 28th Congressional District, encompasses a series of communities that lie northeast of Los Angeles.
The victory for Chu was officially announced at 12:48 a.m. EST, confirming her continued representation in Congress.
