On Wednesday, Richard Hudson, a Republican, secured a seat in the U.S. House to represent North Carolina.
Hudson triumphed over independent candidate Shelane Etchison and Democrat Nigel Bristow, marking his seventh consecutive two-year term for the central North Carolina district.
The newly redrawn 9th Congressional District encompasses areas from Greensboro down to the Sandhills, and stretches eastward to include Fort Liberty, an Army base.

Over the past two years, Hudson has concentrated on bolstering the Republican majority in the House, assuming the role of chair for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Hudson has also been an active member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where he has made veterans’ issues a priority in his legislative efforts.
The election results were confirmed late in the night, with Hudson being declared the winner at 12:38 a.m. EST.
