Republican Spencer Cox successfully secured his reelection as the governor of Utah on Wednesday.
In this recent election, Cox faced competition from Democratic state Representative Brian King and Phil Lyman, a conservative write-in candidate who had earlier lost in the Republican primary held in June.
After his defeat, Lyman encouraged his followers to choose him over Cox when they cast their votes.
This victory marks the beginning of Cox’s second term in the governor’s office.
Historically recognized as a moderate within the Republican party, he generated surprise among voters earlier this summer when he expressed his support for Donald Trump following an assassination attempt on the presidential candidate during a rally in Pennsylvania.
The announcement of Cox’s victory was made officially at 12:29 a.m. EST.
