Democratic Representative Sean Casten successfully secured his reelection for a U.S. House seat in Illinois on Tuesday evening.
Casten, who has a background in science and business before entering politics, has dedicated his efforts to environmental issues and addressing climate change.
His political career began in 2018 when he won an election in a traditionally Republican area within Chicago’s suburbs, defeating a long-standing six-term incumbent.
The district has been redrawn to favor Democratic candidates and predominantly includes areas located southwest of Chicago, in addition to several neighborhoods on the South Side of the city.
The announcement of Casten’s victory was made at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
