HOUSTON — In a strong opening game of the season, Caden Powell led Rice to a 77-70 victory over Florida International on Tuesday, contributing significantly with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Trae Broadnax also made an impactful performance, scoring 15 points on an impressive 7 of 11 shooting while contributing seven rebounds and six assists to the team’s effort.
For Florida International, Jayden Brewer and Dashon Gittens both scored 18 points, providing a solid offensive push. In addition, Travis Gray added 15 points and eight rebounds to support his team.
Rice gained control of the game with just under six minutes remaining in the first half, maintaining their lead as they went into halftime with a score of 38-27. Powell managed to net nine points by the end of the half, while Broadnax emerged as the leading scorer for Rice after the break, adding 11 points to his tally.
