Democrat Suhas Subramanyam has secured victory in the election for an open U.S. House seat in northern Virginia, a win announced on Tuesday night.
Formerly a tech policy adviser during the Obama administration, Subramanyam’s political journey began in 2020 as a state lawmaker, and he was elected to the Virginia Senate in November of last year.
In his recent congressional campaign, he triumphed over Republican Mike Clancy after winning the Democratic nomination during a competitive primary held in June.
A crucial endorsement came from Rep. Jennifer Wexton, who chose not to run for reelection due to health concerns, paving the way for Subramanyam to take her place.
The results were officially announced at 10:49 p.m. EST, confirming Subramanyam’s victory in the race.
