Republican Representative Mark Green secured his reelection for a U.S. House seat in Tennessee on Tuesday. Since 2019, Green has been representing the state’s 7th District. He successfully beat out former Democratic Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and independent candidate Shaun Greene in the race.
Earlier this year, Green had announced his decision not to run for reelection, but after receiving what he described as “countless calls” urging him to reconsider, he decided to enter the race once again. Green’s background includes serving as an Army surgeon and holding a position in the state Senate. He hails from Montgomery County and is currently leading the Committee on Homeland Security.
The announcement of Green’s victory was made at 9:44 p.m. EST, signifying a significant outcome for his political career and ongoing influence in the House of Representatives.
