Democrat Wesley Bell secured a victory for a U.S. House seat in Missouri on Tuesday.
He triumphed over Republican challenger Andrew Jones in the Democratic-leaning 1st District, which includes the city of St. Louis and portions of St. Louis County.
Bell currently serves as the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney and previously won the Democratic primary against incumbent Cori Bush in August.
His primary success was notably influenced by a significant financial effort from a pro-Israel super PAC, which invested $8.5 million to assist in Bush’s ousting after she faced backlash for her remarks regarding Israel’s actions in response to the Hamas assault on October 7, 2023.
The announcement of Bell’s win was made at 9:19 p.m. EST, confirming his position in the House of Representatives.
As a prominent figure, Bell’s win is anticipated to impact legislative dynamics in the region, reflecting shifting political sentiments within the district.
